It lives! Richard and Brad have taken the leap and are aiming to post a new episode of Dangerous Minds Radio Hour every two weeks. It’s serious fun for us to sit around and play records and chat about them, so listen in and know the pleasant feeling of being in a small room in Granada Hills with a couple of total music nerds for an hour or so.

The Fall: “Fit and Working Again”
Material w/ Nona Hendryx: “Take a Chance”
<itunes:summary>It lives!

Today on the Small World we’ll talk with Roger Snider of Ultra Rigs of the World.

We’ll talk about Dekotora and his project of photographing ultra rigs from around the world.

Dekotora (or Decotora or Art Trucks) is an abbreviation for “Decoration Truck” that describe a kind of loudly decorated truck most commonly found in Japan.

These trucks are typically clad in neon or ultraviolet lights, flamboyant paints, and chrome and gold. These decorations can be found on both the cab and the trailer, and not only on the exterior but also in the interior.

Roger first became interested in trucks while working on shooting photo stills for Doug Pray’s documentary, Big Rigs.

This is an enhanced podcast so you will be able to see Roger’s's photos of these amazing rigs on your MP3 player or browser.

Professional lunatic James Curcio takes over again for an episode and brings you back into the studio with MTW. (Listen to episode 1 here.) This episode takes us even further out of the realm of good taste than the first, through a melange of tracks in progress, various prank phone calls, conversation outtakes, and flat out mind-fucks. Topics include independent music production techniques, catheters as tripping toys, amyl nitrate, psychological malaises of suburbia, voodoo, trickster Gods, and a lot more.

The tracks in this episode are taken from MTW’s upcoming release Nothing Is Sacred, and two tracks from Captain Zombie, another project being cultured in this dank basement. The outro track is provided by DJ Homicidal Rapist.

Check out the albums when they’re released if we don’t all OD on cough syrup and fermented yak semen, or invoke a wrathful demon that replaces all of our bodily fluids with nutella.

(Thankfully we got most of our drummer’s material before he left this Earth. RIP Thor Thorsson, you weren’t good for much else, but you sure could play them drums.)

Music in this episode by Marz233, Scott Landes, James Curcio, Iron Will. Disclaimer: Don’t try anything that we talk about in this episode. Or if you do, do it at your own risk. This shit ain’t safe, son.

Back in May Richard Metzger, Brad Laner and Elvin Estela (aka DJ Nobody) had the notion to make a pilot episode for a possible Dangerous Minds radio show. The format is a round robin wherein we three music nerds each take turns presenting tunes we think the others (and hopefully the listening audience) would enjoy hearing along with some bits of information and personal anecdotes. In short, a radio/podcast version of what we do every day on the blog. So after some hemming and hawing, as you do, here’s what we came up with.

THE GSPOT WILL BE ON HIATUS UNTIL SEPTEMBER.

RALPH H. ABRAHAM has been Professor of Mathematics at the University of California at Santa Cruz since 1968.

He received the Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Michigan in 1960, and taught at Berkeley, Columbia, and Princeton before moving to Santa Cruz. He has held visiting positions in Amsterdam, Paris, Warwick, Barcelona, Basel, and Florence, and is the author of more than 20 texts, including eight books currently in print.

He has been active on the research frontier of dynamics -- in mathematics since 1960, and in applications and experiments since 1973. He has been a consultant on chaos theory and its applications in numerous fields (medical physiology, ecology, mathematical economics, psychotherapy, etc.) and is an active editor for the technical journals World Futures, and the International Journal of Bifurcations and Chaos.

In 1975, he founded the Visual Mathematics Project at the University of California at Santa Cruz, which became the Visual Math Institute in 1990, with its popular World Wide Web site since early 1994. He has performed works of visual and aural mathematics and music (with Ami Radunskaya and Peter Broadwell) since 1992.
