09-09-09 (2:38 pm PST) Was just notified by one of the owners of the the Facebook page that it has just been restored after being suspended most of the day by Facebook without proper explanation.

Colton Harris-Moore took this self-portrait, found on a stolen digital camera and provided Tuesday by the Island County Sheriff’s Office, in July 2009. Harris-Moore, 18, is suspected in about 50 burglary cases since he slipped away from a halfway house in April 2008.

The saga is beginning to feel like something out of the movie “Catch Me If You Can,” as Harris-Moore keeps finding new ways to embarrass police by slipping through their grasp.

The 18-year-old typically breaks into businesses or unoccupied vacation homes, lies down on the couch and then dashes into the woods if confronted. He earned himself the nickname of “the barefoot burglar” by committing some of his crimes without wearing shoes.

But authorities say the case has taken on a dangerous new dimension now that Harris-Moore is apparently joyriding in small aircraft.

This year EsoZone – an annual Portland conference dedicated to the occult, fringe science, and other offbeat topics – is forgoing a pre-planned schedule in favor of letting attendees create their own agenda.

On October 9th, participants will arrive at Watershed PDX and collaboratively create the schedule. The event will be free and open to the public, and anyone will be able to propose a session, lead a workshop, or suggest a group activity. The approach is called “unconferencing,” a technique pioneered by tech-industry events.

Portland has played host to a number of unconferences in the past few years, including BarCamp, WordCamp, and CyborgCamp.

Event organizers Klint Finley and Jillian Ordes-Finley were inspired to transform EsoZone into an unconference after attending CyborgCamp in December of 2008.

“I was amazed at how quickly the schedule was put together at CyborgCamp, and how smoothly the event ran. We’d agonized over the EsoZone schedule for months and were still changing things at the last minute. I was really impressed by how the whole unconference model worked,” Finley says.

The pair hope this new approach will help EsoZone better reach is goal: fostering connections between its eclectic and oftentimes outsider audience. Finley says “This should be a better platform for getting people to interact each other, and making sure the event centers around the subject matter the attendees really want to discuss.”

EsoZone will use the same scheduling system used by CyborgCamp and BarCamp. Participants will propose sessions on 8.5 x 11 pieces of sticky paper and place them on a large schedule grid on the wall. The sessions can then be rearranged as necessary as attendees negotiate times and spaces for each session. New sessions can be added to empty slots at any time during the event.

In order to give people an idea of what to expect, the organizers are encouraging likely participants to propose subjects on their online forum in advance of the event. However, nothing will be decided until the actual event.

EsoZone will also be exhibiting esoteric art by a variety of artists. “Watershed is such a cavernous space, we have room for a staggering amount of artwork,” Ordes-Finley says. Although artists will be allowed to hang art the day of the event, they are encouraged to check in ahead of time if they have questions or could have any logistical issues.

=========
After EsoZone Portland 2009, we will release the “EsoZone Protocol,” a set of guidelines similar to an open source software license that will enable organizers to host an EsoZone in their own city as long as they are free and follow the “unconference” model.

BIO: Eric Young, born November 13, 1976, in Jacksonville, Illinois, USA.
Encouraged to have a wide variety of musical taste from a young age, Eric Young began collecting
influences and records from age 6, after hearing Kraftwerk and a lot of early hip hop. Growing up in
the Midwestern United States, Eric had plenty of time to focus on musical studies.
Beginning trumpet at age 9, Eric continued with private lessons in composition and performance and
participated in both school and extracurricular bands throughout elementary, middle, and high school.
Graduating in 1995, he gave up playing trumpet to focus on learning to play tribal hand drums and
singing. During this time, Eric was introduced to the electronic music scene and illegal raves in St.
Louis.

Eric attended college at Mac Murray College in Jacksonville, IL, studying comparative religion and
philosophy, with a focus on pre-christian pagan traditions and philosophies of the far east, in particular
the mystic and mystery religions. That line of study has continued after leaving college, into the present
day, as well as an interest in higher consciousness, energy work, and alternative healing methods.
After relocating to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois in 1998, he began DJing bleepy acid house and IDM at
house parties and local clubs, eventually going on to host and DJ two separate radio shows on stations
90.1 WEFT and 104.5 WRFU. After several more years of independent study into subjects such as
brain change technology ( binaural tones, cymatics, and psychoacoustics) and still composing music, it
was a natural step to move on to production and studio engineering. That became Eric’s primary focus
from that point.

Since 2001, Eric Young has produced and released 9 albums through independent channels, featuring
other talented artists collaborating on many of the projects, most recently his instrumental release
“Scientific Illuminism (Is For Sissies)” on Lab Beat, in the UK. In addition to that, he is DJing,
producing, mixing, and mastering for artists and labels worldwide. He is currently living in Des
Moines, Iowa, and working on 3 new releases as well as putting out progressive, quality DJ mixes
regularly.

In July 2009, HipGnosis began hosting a 2-hour weekly show on http://glitch.fm . “Between Zero and
One” airs Wednesday nights 10 pm – 12 am CST, streamed live, with archives and setlists at
