in Fear and Loathing

Part two of the three part series Fear and Loathing on the Internet: Redux (Part one here)

GPod Radio host Joseph Matheny moderates a roundtable discussion on the subject of Myth on the Modern World, with guests: Wes Unruh, James Curcio, John Harrigan, Lucy Allin, P. Emerson Williams and Anna Young. (Note: When I recorded the intros to part one and two, I forgot to mention Wes as a participant in the roundtable. He is however introduced in the actual roundtable piece and is a major contributor to the conversation. My omission was simply due to being overworked with too little time. Hopefully he will not hate me for this oversight. )

Also, the first installment of In Your Ear, some tidbits about the Y project and some ranting and raging in response to the mailbag.

In part three we will introduce another regular segment to the GSpot, A Concise Guide To Setting Yourself On Fire
with Kara Rae Garland.

Part Three coming in about 2 weeks. Enjoy!

Myths….
The myth that makes the most sense to me is the movie Abbott and Constello Meet Frankenstein.
The lessons of Bumbling comedians coming face to face with Dracula, Frankenstein and The Wolfman cannot be expressed better than is expressed in this movie.
We have Dracula….who represents the FOOL (0) in the Book Of Thoth. A brilliant mind drunk with the blood of dead and decaying souls.
We have the Frankenstein Monster….who represents The Babe Of The Aeon (XX) and the victim of the vampire. An imbecile of incredible strength and elemental kindness but who can’t turn away from svengalis gaze long enough to self reflect.
We have The Wolfman/woman represented by the Magician/Wizard.(I) A true alchemist of the highest order because he has found his G-Spot with the help of the bitter herb and the self reflective light of the moon. His mortal insanity is the price he pays for his sorvereignty.
And we have Bud and Lou the comedian Gods who always exit as a hero. Even after all their bumbling nonsense. They represent (XXI)….The Universe.

Just want to touch upon a point that Wes made regarding data on the Internet. It was suggested that, under certain conditions, a solar flare would be able to wipe out all the data on the Internet.

Whether or not this would be a good thing is a whole other discussion in itself :) but I think at this point, it’s just not possible. Correct me if I’m wrong, but solar flares can’t affect data written on DVDs or CDs, right? I’m almost 100% positive that the giant technological corporations have already found other solutions to counter such an event (though I can’t back this up [ha ha ha, pun] with proof)… remember when IBM was working on a way to store data on a jelly substance?

In addition, flares don’t affect paper, and Wikipedia just started printing books based on their articles that people can order. Wouldn’t surprise me if groups of people got together and decide what articles are worth saving for the ages.
