Is it really wise to title one’s comic the same as that of a masterpiece in the same medium by one of the best thereof, that being Dave McKean? Obviously, if it’s better, you’re in the clear. Is it better than Dave McKean’s?
Good question, Ken. Obviously, the answer’s ‘No, probably not’. Like you said, he’s a master, and we’re just starting out.
As I’ve said in a few places, we came up with the title about 2 and a half years ago. We both knew very little about comics at that stage, and we didn’t know there was another Cages book out there. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it for sale in Australia.
We considered changing the title several times, but there didn’t seem to be much point. Ours is a sci-fi thriller; his is more psychological. Ours is a UK/Aus book; McKean is American. The story and art — cover and interior — are nothing alike. I don’t think anyone’s going to get them confused.
Anyway, thanks for your interest.

Just for the record, McKean is also British.
