Experiment Haywire: Cooler than Genocide
Review

Thanks to the internet, I’ve been aware of the progression of Rachel Haywire’s sound from early audio experiments to the chaos of Nuclear Riot Party, and thought I knew what to expect from this ep, mixed and mastered at Mindswerve Studios in NYC, produced by Xris Flam. I was wrong.
I’ll be honest, I was expecting noise, experimental soundscapes, avant-garde assault on pop music… I expected a dark industrial doom–but I didn’t expect it to be danceable, and as a result, so damn subversive. Then again Haywire is never what you’d expect. It starts with People Killing People, moves into Game Called Life, blows through Decapitation of the Nation, and both summarizes and reiterates the theme again with Cooler than Genocide, but it is more than a four song ep. It’s a harbinger of things to come, a dark industrial space that picks up where Nitzer Ebb left off years ago.
NRP seemed to actually break music, rooting out the bare bones of what a performance meant to an audience, then snapping the assumptions systematically, setting the bones aflame, then dancing in the ashes. Now I suspect that was a learning process, and she’s taken those sensibilities and re-framed that passion into thick, fat beats and textured audio complexity that could easily sneak its way into any dj’s club mix… And it should. It’s a good thing to see such a fiercely creative woman generating dark industrial minus the gothy-emo undertones.
This isn’t a full album, it’s a four song ep. There’s every sign that she’s not stopping either, this isn’t a summation of her talents, it’s an opening statement, with more than a dash of glitter and pain and with her technical skills and production values growing exponentially, her sound is filling a void that has remained empty for far too long. She’s already released two tracks from the upcoming full-length album Annihilation Chic, proving that this ep was no fluke, and that there’s much more to come.
Speaking of more to come, listen for the upcoming interview with Rachel I have coming up on the next Gspot, and until then check out what she’s doing with her new label, machineKunt. You can check out the track Decapitation (of the Nation) on her myspace profile, (as well as the two new tracks from her upcoming album), and here’s the video for “Game Called Life”, directed by S.G. you have got to be kidding me.
this is garbage and you know it.
I’ll concur with sense – we appreciate your efforts to cover things wes but haywire just doesn’t make the cut
LOLZ
I’m not taking a stance about “good” or “bad” here- all I’ve got to say is that if “anonymous” or sense either have work of their own that they think is fit to print, they should pass it along.
Otherwise, whether or not her stuff is any “good” she’s already outperformed the both of you.
Please send all hate mail directly to my inbox. A new album of total hate called “Pussy Politics” is coming out soon and we need your help.
Now that’s brilliant.
… and then James plays the old “your opinion isn’t valid if you can’t do better” card
BTW, I haven’t heard the album and don’t have an opinion, I’m just LOLZing at Ms. Haywire’s ability to catch flak here quicker than a Ron Paul bashing post.
Hey, I didn’t say it was necessarily valid in either event. But it would certainly help.
Seriously though, …
No, I got nothing. Funny, I’m really having a hard time finding myself caring about teh Internets today. First the LJ “strike,” now this.
I am Ron Paul.
No! I’m Spartacus!!
Oh yeah? I am Attila the Hun. I think Haywire’s album breaks boundaries and it goes to show you what a powerful woman can do better than any man (especially me) when she’s inspired and pissed off.
This shit is NOT music. She only wishes that it was.Boundry-breaking, hahahaa. You need to go back to music appreciation class. The only thing it is ‘breaking’ is perhaps some poor persons eardrums that was actually tricked into enduring such **** for longer than 5 seconds.Lying cunt. It’s kind of pathetic to have to slander important people just in order to get yourself noticed. Also grounds for an old fashioned ass kicking,ya dig?
Rachel’s music is low grade crap. Plus she enjoys backstabbing others in the scene. She’s a total drag!
CR
She backstabbed me too. I am still trying to emotionally deal with her psychological abuse. I still support her as a musician, but I will never fully heal from how she treated me IRL.
Rachel Haywire can suck a rhinoceros’ hard dick with French’s Mustard!
