WHO’s Paul Barnett

Wes Unruh

It doesn’t take much googling about for Warhammer Online
before you start running across Paul Barnett, Creative
Director for EA Mythic. His Youtube profilepaulbarnett.png
helps put a human face on the role of game designers working
on what promises to be a much more violent, weird, and compulsive playing experience than WOW could ever hope to be (just watch this WHO marketing video.)

I admit it, I’m a fan of MMORPG’s. Currently I’ve got a
level 60+ Troll rogue herbalist/enchanter in World of Warcraft (aka WOW) and I’ve every intention of
picking up the next expansion from Blizzard before I hit
level 70. I don’t play constantly, (see Jason’s article
The Online Game Addicts Safe Playing Guide
) but I do play
consistently as a way to stay in touch with friends
and to keep my mind occupied when absorbing
new music or compressing files during mixing sessions.

Because of my fascination for fantasy MMO’s and the potential impact social gaming has on culture, I’ve been
following the hype being generated by the upcoming
Warhammer Online (aka WHO) under development by EA Mythic
slated for release in early 2008 ever since I saw
this
Penny Arcade strip.

But that’s beside the point, this article isn’t a plug piece for EA Mythic, and if it weren’t for these video clips below, I’d have kept
my private gaming life to myself and written about fish living inside trees or something equally fucked up. What we have here is some solid advice on how to get into this
30 billion dollar a year industry, from someone who’s obviously dealt with enough bullshit along the way to know what’s valuable and what’s not.
