Actually, about the Harry Potter series, I thought Remus Lupin was a homosexual. His lycanthropy seemed like a metaphor for homosexuality, because both involve secrecy and prejudice. I was surprised when he got romantic with Nymphadora Tonks.

As for Dumbledore, Rowling gave no indication that he was gay in the books. She should have explained it clearly or not said it at all. Saying he’s gay after the series ends seems like more of a political ploy than a literary device.
