Why Are You Asking Me This?
Interview with PIGMY LOVE CIRCUS!
Pigmy Love Circus‘ Michael Savage, lead singer and Peter Fletcher, guitarist were recently interro.. uh, interviewed for over an hour and a half by Ray Carney. This is the first of three parts of this epic conversation:
First 30 Minutes of the Interview:
Ray Carney:
So who did you guys’ album art?
Peter Fletcher:
Um, we don’t know about that, it was painted by…
Michael Savage:
The concept.. it was all put together by Concetta Halstead.
PF:
But the actual picture is a..
MS:
It’s from a very old Mexican gas station calendar.
RC:
Oh really?
PF:
Yeah it was a gas station calendar that Danny got.
MS:
The weird thing is if you insert that cover, take it
out of the plastic, the jewel case, and
insert it inside of the mylar cover that comes with Tool’s
Lateralus, all the flames line up perfectly over the
heads of the Matador, the bull, the senorita, and then across
the sky. It’s really weird.
PF:
It’s very weird. It’s very very strange.
RC:
Oh wow.
MS:
A fan showed me that in Chicago. He goes, ‘Did you
guys plan this?’ and I looked and I went ‘Holy shit
that’s really weird.’ He goes ‘You guys did this on
purpose.’ I go ‘Dude, I don’t know anything about
that.’ This kid walked away pretty freaked out.
RC:
It was planned by Danny I bet.
MS:
It was probably Aleister Crowley doing it.
PF:
We disavow all knowledge of anybody’s actions on it. (laughs)
RC:
You guys got any questions for me?
MS:
Where are you based?
RC:
I’m in Wichita Kansas right now in my boxers
interviewing you guys.
MS:
That’s where our drummer’s from is Payola.
RC:
Yeah, I was reading that about Danny, I thought that was really
inspirational to me, that people in Kansas have uh..
MS:
We played in Lawrence, I wanted to go to the vortex there, but
we never really got a chance to really spend a lot of time there.
PF:
Yeah, Ray was saying that he was just in Lawrence last night
or something.
RC:
Yeah, yeah. Interviewing a few local bands. They blew my mind
when they were playing, they did a really good job.
PF:
What’s that place, Mike, the Bottleneck?
MS:
Yeah.
RC:
The Bottleneck, in Lawrence, it’s a good place.
PF:
We played there a couple of times and just tore the roof off of there.
MS:
Yeah, we had fun there.
RC:
Yeah, it’s a fun place. Some Kansas people get real crazy… (laughs)
so it’s even funner.
MS:
Them Jayhawkers!
Okay, a lot of times what we like to do is for people when they’re reading
the article and stuff, is put like two tracks that they could download. Is
that cool, or is that no good for you guys?
MS:
I personally don’t care.
PF:
I don’t have any problem with that whatsoever.
RC:
Is there any certain tracks you guys would like me to put on that?
MS:
Yeah, like “Livin’ Like Shit” would be a good one.
RC:
Oh yes. It’s one of my favorites.
PF:
I think “Headless Horseman” and “Murderer” are very good.
MS:
Yeah, that’s it right there.
PF:
And I want to say about Murderer, when we very first were playing that,
and we had just like a cassette tape of us playing that with our old drummer
Anthony Martinez, Danny heard the song and he said “Okay.” And he took it
and did the impossible, in my view, of taking that and putting his kick drum…
He has this high hat cymbal in the middle of his drum kit, it sounds like a garbage
can when he hits it.
When he was doing it I was thinking ‘you’re crazy’ but then again it’s Danny.
And he did the impossible and matched that kick drum with the whole mess of
what’s going on there. And that’s part of the amazing thing about a drummer
like him, where his limbs are just like everywhere.

Ah, yes. Danny Carey’s REAL band!
Pigmies are not even distributed in record shops here in Greece, so I was really excited listening to the 1st part of the interview, and listening to the actual voices of the guys.
Really great man!
Looking forward to the following two parts of the interview…
keep ‘em coming
Love it…can’t wait for more decadent stuff from the Pigmys.
