The Visionary Paintings of Vibrata Chromodoris

The images could be some sub-atomic or molecular process, or possibly some combustion at the heart of a star. Or else a moment of a peak or transcendental experience, downloaded into this world and displayed using old school tools such as canvas and paint. At any rate, the visionary paintings
Vibrata Chromodoris shimmer with the energy of realms beyond fragmented everyday consciousness, so appropriate that “Vibrata was given her name during a meditation in 1998. Along with the name she was shown a vision of waves of energy, undulating and expanding infinitely in all directions as a continuum.”

Originally from Canada, Vibrata now resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, paintings and digital work held in collections around the world, part of a network of visionary artists that Erik Davis says “are just on the verge of blowing up.”

Vibrata’s blog gives good and intriguing insight into her creative process. Generally she starts with an idea or image, sometimes from a patron, sometimes not. From there she uses Google – what she terms “google-mancy” – to flesh out the idea, to dig deeper into it, peel away layers, find new connections, surfing on chance and intuition. This technique of using high-tech tools to reveal ancient esoteric knowledge somehow is a perfect mirror of her works, which could be images of primordial sparks, a post-human post-symbolic language, or somehow both.
